Susanna was the youngest in a family of six girls later followed by two younger brothers. Susanna was too young to remember Stowe House but for her older sisters, even Catherine, the house was child’s paradise of adventure and freedom where she treasured fishing expeditions with their father along the nearby Waveney River. Susanna was only five years old when the family relocated to a much grander setting.
